Sick of kids being Sick

Baby T. has been sick for almost a week - just a bad cold but he is clingy and needy and hasn't been sleeping good at night. It is really starting to wear on me. I'm been tired and grumpy. Big T. started coming down with the same cold so I was taking care of him too. Other than a trip to the dr., I've been couped up all week. Luckily everyone is starting to get better and the weather is nice today so I've already been outside a couple times and even got to go to the bank :) It feels so nice to have freedom back. I really dislike it when kids are sick and you are stuck in the house all the time.

Superbowl

We're not huge football fans but we got some treats and watched the game anyway. The boys had their 3-D glasses for halftime. Although that was disappointing, they didn't notice. They just had fun wearing their glasses.

New Fridge

Our old fridge gave up the ghost (it was fixable but we were done spending so much money fixing it). So we had a new fridge delivered today. First they told us they would arrive between 8 and 11. Then they called and said between 8 and 10. I'm used to people saying that and then me calling them hours after asking where they are. Not today. . . they arrived at 7:35am. It was a whirlwind of a morning trying to get three kids ready for school and at the same time quickly unloading all the food from the old fridge and making room so the guys could take out the old fridge and put in the new. It all worked out - the only stumbling block was getting cold lunches made since all the food was dumped into an ice chest so I took the kids their lunches after things calmed down.
The funny part was that I told the kids to say goodbye to old fridge. Next thing I know I look to see them giving the old fridge a big hug and kiss (they have a hard time with change; at first they didn't even want a new fridge).

Haircuts

My boys got haircuts today (well, baby T. had one a week or so ago). It was getting pretty bad. They all had hair starting to cover their ear - and beginning to look like girls (ok, not really but it was getting so long!) Now that their hair is cut, I'm reminded how handsome they are. By the way, if you have ever seen my kids hair right after it is cut you can probably tell I cut their hair myself but it is good enough and it saves me a lot of money.

Shots

Baby T. got shots today and he did pretty good (considering, of course). We'll see how he does this evening and tonight. Last time he was a little miserable and got a pretty high fever. Big T. also got a second flu shot (kids under age 9 should get 2 the first year they get flu shots - I never knew) but he did very good and was very brave. No tears, he just gritted through it. Just to gripe: my appointment was at 1:30, I got there at 1:20 and by the time I left it was 2:50 that's almost an hour and a half! That's just ridiculous. Luckily it's not normally like that and luckily I didn't have all my kids there to entertain in a waiting room and then a small room.

Happy Birthday to Me!

I had a wonderful birthday today and yesterday. Last night I went on a date with Tim (and the baby) while my brother and sister-in-law babysat the older boys. It was nice to go out just us and Olive Garden is so good! Today I didn't have to make breakfast because we went to the scout breakfast, and the kids made their own lunch and cleaned the house. Tonight we went to dinner at Applebees with M/K and my parents. Then we had cake (made by my wonderful husband) and ice cream, then gifts. It was a good day.

Mama said there'd be days like this

Tonight was interesting. I made a turkey yesterday and had plans to make Turkey Enchiladas tonight. I got it all mixed together with the leftover turkey and was down to the last ingredient to add -- enchilada sauce . . . wait a minute, I didn't have any and neither did M/K. I put it in the fridge to do another night and settled on Spaghetti. I even had meat to make meatballs. I cooked the spaghetti, mixed and cooked the meatballs then went to warm the spaghetti sauce . . . wait a minute, I didn't have any spaghetti sauce! How could that be, I buy that by the case. Well, I truly was out except for about 1/8 c. that was leftover in the fridge. Over to my brother's house to borrow pizza sauce and add tomato sauce and some spices to make spaghetti. Next, I get everything all mixed together, turn it on warm then go to the living room. Seconds later Tim is calling me with a little bit of frantic in his voice and I walked back into the kitchen to see him quickly yet strategically pick up the dish towel that had caught fire because it was set too close to the burner I had just turned on. Fortunately Tim was forgiving (he just wished I would have burned one of our older dish towels instead of our new nice one). At that point I wanted to not touch anything, I felt like everything I had tried to do had gone up in flames (one of them literally). Luckily the rest of the evening went ok.
